Tarak Mehta Na OOlta Chasma – An insult to Gujaratis…?

Shri Tarak Mehta is writing Duniya Na OOndha Chasma for Chitralekha for more than 30 years, it is weekly Gujarati magazine read by millions of Gujarati’s all over the world, he has created his own characters and nicely conceptualized:

(Jetha & Daya) husband wife love-hate relationship; (Jetha & Champaklal) father-son with difference of opinion; (Jetha & Tapu) father-son generation gap; (Tapu & Champaklal) love between grandson-grandfather with no generation gap; (Daya & Champaklal) respect between daughter-in-law & father-in-law and loving and peaceful neighborhood. His writing is very humorous as well critical, with common man day to day problems he also covers the latest social & political issue that connects to his loyal readers.

In the TV serial Tarak Mehta Na OOlta Chasma they could not able to create the magic of relationships between:

Jetha-Daya-Tapu- Champaklal or with rest of the couples from different communities like Sardarji Roshan & Harjeet Singh Sodhi; South Indian Babita & Krishnan Iyer; Marathi Madhavi & Atmaram Bhide; Bihari Komal & Hansraj Hathi; North Indian Patrakar Popatlal Pandey; story narrator Tarak Mehta & his wife Anjali and Natukaka & Bagha.

This TV serial is more concentrating on funny acting, funny reactions, funny situations or funny dialogues and fails to create the magic of relationships for e.g. the way Daya speaks, the way Champaklal over-reacts, the way Jethalal laughs and delivers funny dialogues, the way Bagha walks and the way Natukaka endlessly talks over telephone; they hardly covers the social or political issues rather they are much more interested in making money by promoting movies or celebrating the upcoming festivals or announcing a Rs 5 lac prize money for a stray dog, or dragging Gulabo character without any concrete result, ending up by just getting her marrying to some unknown character.

They are just enchasing the name of Shri Tarak Mehta and exploiting the readymade characters which is developed by Shri Tarak Mehta over the period of 30 years, above all the way they are projecting Gujaratis in this serial compare to other communities, it is insult to our community as whole, they are making a mockery of Gujaratis and degrading the most successful business community – GUJARATIS….because no Gujarati housewives talks like Dayabhabhi or no Gujarati walks like Bagha or no Gujarati over reacts like Champaklal…?

At least you show Gujarati like Gujarati and not like cartoon characters, if you can show Sardar like Sardar, Maharashtrians like Marathi then why not Gujaratis?

The success of this serial is the name of Tarak Mehta and his readymade characters, one should not forget the hard work on creating such wonderful characters which easily connects to a common man – in my opinion it is to be renamed with new title “Tarak Mehta Na footela Chasma”
